So many young Australians are living in circumstances where they cannot afford basic necessities, let alone sporting luxuries.

All Nations, All Sports Program is an initiative of OnSide Victoria to encourage energetic and creative young people to work together to level the playing field in our communities.

In 2008 we will use sport as a means to help make communities more inclusive by breaking down barriers, increasing respect for others' differences and rejoicing in diversity.

We are forming new partnerships between the private sector, charitable organisations, youth centres, police, schools, universities, sporting clubs and associations to create a more caring culture and generate creative ideas to assist those in need.

This Project will offer CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) and disadvantaged communities in Victoria access to activities, employment and training with the aim of improving self esteem, developing leadership skills, better teamwork, less at risk behaviour, mature life skills and increased overall health and wellbeing in the community.

OnSide Victoria will work with various State Sporting Organisations and the City of Casey to provide sustainable sport and recreation opportunities.

Our goal is to assist in 'tackling the barriers' that exist for CALD and disadvantaged communities in order to enable them to connect with the wider community.

The Life Skills through Sport Project will encourage participation of young people through a variety of initiatives including:

  • Providing practical guidance on how to access existing sport and recreation opportunities
  • Presenting "Come 'n Try It" sports days in schools
  • Provide guest speakers for events such as sports stars, inspirational speakers, and police
  • Active development of community, school and sporting club links
  • Provision of transport to young people when required
  • Actively identifying future leaders, coaches, referees and administrators and providing mentoring and ongoing education
  • Provide financial assistance for education programs
  • Including young people in decision making for the project
  • Translation of project information for parents
  • Developing healthier communities through physical activity
  • Collecting data for Project evaluation and future initiatives
